the history
When Ashley was all of 5 his mother and father died in a terrible car accident. Ashley was sleeping at home and didn't know until the police came to take him into foster care. His mother was an only child and his dad had a brother who died when he was a kid; all of Ashley's grandparents were either dead or uninterested in taking him. Subsequently he got shuffled through the foster system; nothing absolutely terrible happened to him, but he was never adopted and he never stayed long enough at a place to make it feel like a home. He wasn't exactly a trouble-maker so he was often traded around because he was so easy-going and didn't cause mischief in new homes. When he was 18 he moved out of his last foster home and moved in with a friend of his until he got into the dorms.
Ashley went to a university in his hometown of San Jose, CA and graduated with a bachelor's degree in medieval history when he was 22 years old. He hasn't done much with the degree, obviously, but he maintains his interest in the field by purchasing old books and skimming them when he's off-duty. He has quite a collection now. He enrolled in the FBI Academy as soon as he was able, at 23. In the year between college and the agency he kind of just worked odd jobs in San Jose where he could get them and hung around his friend's apartment as he couldn't be bothered to find one for himself after he left the dorms. He lived in the Academy as he learned the trade, became an agent and was contacted by Sector 9 when he was 26. He was renowned for his gun skills at that point, particularly with a pistol, and so he filled the role of Agent A easily. He's been there ever since, his skill-set growing as the years went by. When Sector 9 encouraged him to move to Boston when he was 27 he went happily; he loved the change of scenery and enjoyed the thrill of exploring a city he had never seen before. |
the home
languages - Japanese and English he learned as a kid. Surprisingly Ashley isn't that good at picking up languages, given how quickly he can pick up new hobbies. He says that it's far easier to train the body than the mind; give him an hour to learn how to sew and his muscle memory is already kicking in to help him. Give him an hour to learn how to speak Spanish and he'll be able to ask you your name and say good morning.
home - Like Ashley himself, his flat is decorated tastefully and elegantly. He lives in Chicago, Illinois because he can tolerate the weather and he kind of likes the frank attitude of the city. His flat is three-bedroom, one for himself, one for his cats (he doesn't tell many people about that room) and an office he uses rather infrequently. The office doubles as a small library though he rarely has time to actually sit down and read. He likes buying random paperbacks that catch his eye; he stays away from romance but he has a secret soft spot for gothic literature. He lives on the third storey and is good friends with his neighbour to the right. Most of his furniture is stream-lined and modern, swooping couches and an elegant entertainment center. He has a large television and a good set of speakers because he loves to listen to the music channels, specifically indie songs. His home is decorated primarily in neutral colors with pops of bright reds and blues and greens in the form of pillows or towels or paintings. He's a good decorator though he rarely changes things around and is content to keep his home as is. He could walk it blind or in the dark, which is the kind of comfortable safety he likes. He has a California king sized bed so his cats can keep him company and cotton sheets, as silk clings too tightly to him while he sleeps. (as for his cat room, it's decked out in things decidedly not fashionable; it's got a scratch post and cat towers built into the walls. It's main draw is its enormous cat-shaped rug) |
pets - Ashley has two cats because they're independent enough to be left alone while he's on assignment. His neighbour feeds them when he's gone. They're both girls and named Eleanor and Lorelai respectively. Eleanor is an orange tabby, shorthair, a little pudgy; she has a notch in her right ear from a fight she got in before Ashley adopted her from the pound. Lorelai he literally found on the street; she's lean and dangerous looking, long-legged and jet black. She has a tiny sliver of white on her chin and a myriad of scars under her soft fur.

the heart
personality - debonair || intuitive || playful || arrogant
Ashley excels at his job because he's good at reading people. He's good at figuring them out; he's good at assuming hobbies and aspirations and careers. He's good at surveying a room and splitting strangers into categories, single, unobtainable, married, uninterested. This skill goes hand in hand with his ability to maintain a deep cover when on assignment; Ashley is very good at getting a character folder and becoming that character. Sometimes things he learns for the characters linger long after the assignment is complete. Sometimes he's too good at seducing people; sometimes those feelings linger even when it didn't seem like there were feelings in the first place. Due to this occasionally Ashley experiences some difficulty with separating his real life with whoever it is he's being this week. He's hilarious when he's comfortable, very confident, often arrogant. He's been accused multiple times of being too full of himself. He is a great athlete and has confidence in his own body so he rarely worries about fights breaking out. He's also skilled with a gun, and decent with a knife, though the longer the blade the worse he is with it. Ashley is very charming and can make friends like no one else, but oftentimes these friendships are shallow. He has a great love for the sea and is terrified of heights, so he dislikes assignments where he has to pretend to be a pilot or a skydiving instructor or whatnot. He's an excellent swimmer and goes running near on every morning so he's in good shape and great in just flat-out running away from a poor situation. He doesn't maintain friendships past when they become difficult to uphold, and has no mercy when breaking up with people. |

the looks
Ashley is built tall and lean. He's 6'3" and comfortable with his height, so he's rather sinuous and elegant. He has a narrow face with high cheekbones and thin upturned eyes. He's rather pale overall; he doesn't tan well, and often burns if he spends time outside with no sunscreen. He has thin hips and long legs that end with small feet. His hands are also fine and delicate; his FBI class teased him for his feminine fingers on the gun range, so Ashley got a commendation for being the best shooter of his class just to spite them.
His hair is curly and goes down to his butt and often he wears it in a loose braid just to get it out of his way. He's the sort to forget how long it is and accidentally sit on it or lean on it or get it caught up on a ring or bracelet. However it's very fine, so it's easy for him to wrap it up at the base of his neck and still fit a wig over his head. His hair is different shades of pink and blue all the way down. He's clean-shaven or has a five o'clock shadow, and when it's the latter the stubble comes in silver. Due to his dark eye whites Ashley's black feathers frame his face perfectly and complement his hair well. Because he exercises regularly he has hard, wiry muscle. He looks more like a runner than anything else; his biceps aren't altogether that impressive but he has thick thighs and muscular calves. He dresses impeccably and in such a way that it flatters his body. Often he can be found in expensive suits or a dressy button-up though he covets his Saturdays because they're the only times he'll wear ratty jeans and shirts studded with holes. He also really, really loves ankle socks and has an entire dresser drawer full of them in various colors and patterns. Ashley's face claim is Godfrey Gao, that handsome fellow. |
