Jude Raza Birdwhistle
"I'm the agent that's going to save the world."
Raised by a single mother Jude knows precisely the impact one person can have on your world. They became an agent to help people, to be there for someone who has no one else, and so far they're making good on this promise. Almost painfully righteous. |

the history
Jude was born in the little town of Gillingham, Dorset at the local hospital. His mom did not sign their father's name on their birth certificate at all but rather left it blank and pressed it into her baby's chubby hands. They would be far more loyal than their father, surely. Cerys could not take the burden of a Nyel clone.
But Jude grew up strong and bright and so very happy, and insisted their mother use they/them pronouns and as they got older insisted the school did as well. Their mother had put their surname down as their father's but when Jude was all of 11 they solemnly approached Cerys and asked to change it. "I'd rather be a Birdwhistle," they'd intoned, serious even then, with peanut butter at the corner of their mouth. "Like you."
So they changed it. Cerys was never able to tell their child no although she did insist that Jude keep their middle name. She told them with a laugh that it was the only thing their father had given them apart from his genetics. So Jude kept Raza, and later learned it was an Arabic word meaning "contentment", and disliked it all the more but never changed it for want of their mother's wishes. They got involved with MI6 when they were scarcely 18 and found their calling in the world; abandoning their schooling they pursued instead learning how to shoot, to run, to capture and evade capture. When they were 22 they were dispatched to help aid an American Agency that was in pursuit of a British fugitive, and they found they rather liked the people they worked with. When they were 23 they went back to America again, this time as a lecturer, and right before their 24th birthday they moved to Chicago, IL to pursue a career in the FBI.
Sector 9 tapped them shortly after and volunteered to pay for Cerys to move to Chicago as an added benefit. After some convincing Cerys relented and she lives a few blocks down from Jude in a condominium she very carefully selected. She is not entirely aware of what Jude does for a living but she's not slow, and she knows her child well. Still, that never stops her from letting Jude's friends into her home, and sitting with them at the dinner table and listening to them smoothly lie. She's proud of Jude, no matter what they're into, because she knows they will always make the right call. With Jude on assignment she doesn't worry so much for the other little people of the world.

languages - Jude grew up speaking English and still has quite a strong British accent, although they are capable (under some duress) of speaking without an accent. This skill they cultivated for missions, and although it's difficult it is possible for them to do. As a child their mother taught them Arabic, though Jude doesn't much use it as they realized growing older that their father had been the one to teach Cerys, and they want nothing their father has given someone else. Still, it has occasionally come in handy. Although not fluent Jude is capable of speaking Spanish and Italian and French enough to 'get along'. They're not adept at understanding it in writing however, and can really only successfully eavesdrop with those languages (and even then, if someone uses a metaphor or slang Jude is completely lost).
home - Like Ashley, Blaire and Oz Jude lives in a complex in Chicago, IL. They actually live on the same floor as Ashley and Blaire, on the opposite side of Ashley (being that Blaire is on the far side). Ashley has the biggest apartment with three rooms, and Blaire the smallest with one; Jude's is perfect with two. One serves as their bedroom and the other as Moneypenny's room/library. Jude keeps their apartment pretty cold at around 67/68 degrees Fahrenheit but because Moneypenny requires it warmer than that his room is heated to around 72 to 75. Jude keeps the majority of their books in that room, for lack of space, although a great deal of their collection is in the living room too, in the shelves above the couch. Jude's flat was furnished by the apartment although they brought some pieces with them from Britain, including a couch and a Victorian era chair. They have decorated mostly in purple hues, as that's their favorite color, and complemented it with white and some black. The picture to the right is a good representation of their living room. Jude actually loves his flat and is always excited to get home after a long mission. When home alone Jude often lets Moneypenny do whatever he'd like and leaves the door for their room open and their cage top off. At night Jude usually turns the heat up so they can have Moneypenny out and not worry, although they do turn it way down before bed. Their kitchen is very well-stocked thanks to Cerys, who sometimes cooks entire three course meals and comes over to stick them in Jude's fridge. |
pets - Jude has loved James Bond since they were little and that affection has not abated over the years. Their mother gave them a snake for their 16th birthday, and Jude has had him ever since. He's a piebald black pastel ball python, 3 feet long now and nearing 8 years old. Jude named him Moneypenny, despite that being a female character, as they say the name just fits. Often they pronounce the name in an exaggerated British accent, as their mother always did when she read them the books growing up.

the heart
personality - righteous || optimistic || gentlemanly || naïve
Jude is the sort who is almost overwhelmingly positive. It's not to say that they are never in a bad mood, because they do in fact have a quick temper despite their best attempts to smother it, but it is to say that Jude strives to maintain an optimistic outlook on life. There is always something better around the corner because if there isn't, what's the point? They're very polite, very well-mannered; they aren't particularly soft-spoken but they usually speak in an even and unhurried cadence nonetheless. They're the sort to never raise their voice, so those few infrequent times they do yell it's startling and almost scary. Jude has an incredible sweet tooth and despite somehow having an incredible body (thank you, metabolism and life-and-death situations) they can almost always be found eating something. More often than not it's some kind of candy. They always have a lollipop or chocolate bar or fruit roll-up in their bag or pocket and they eat when they're nervous especially, which isn't a common occurrence but does sometimes happen.
They were raised by a single mother so they are almost painfully polite to women especially, and an active member of the feminist movement. They're the sort to interrupt a man harassing a woman on the dance floor or the bar and make the man leave, by force if necessary. They insist on people being treated with respect, no matter their gender. Jude does come across as sort of ignorant about the true evils of the world, because of his painful self-righteousness. They're all about striving for the next best thing, but this doesn't mean they're ignoring the cruelties of the world; it means they desperately want to change them. Jude was 'borrowed' from British Intelligence some while back and never returned so many of their coworkers in Sector 9 actually have limited backstory of them. This has led to an upheld illusion that they are naïve and ignorant to the capacity for evil, but it's untrue. Jude has actually spent a great deal of time overseas assassinating world leaders without the go-ahead.

the looks
Jude was a small child and they grew into a small adult. They stand at 5'8" but have never been envious of those taller than them; their height is very well-suited to their career choice as they are big enough in stature and muscle to beat someone into intimidation but small and bright-eyed enough to be rather disarmingly charming. Jude knows how to use their appearance to their benefit and isn't shy about exploiting those that underestimate them for their chipper features. Jude is very expressive with their face, particularly in the eyes and mouth. While they rarely smile ear-to-ear smiles it's obvious to see when they're amused or pleased because of the tiniest of quirks at the corner of their lips. And their eyes, a startling teal shade, are very genuinely windows to the soul. Jude has worked on smoothing out their face so their true feelings don't show but they do less undercover work than the other agents so it isn't terribly important to learn a good poker-face.
They used to wear their hair long but after a mission when an opponent used Jude's hair as leverage they hacked it off. Now they keep it fairly short and in a traditional cut. They style it every morning because they like to look professional but when left unperturbed it tends to have the slightest curl to it, especially close to the scalp. On weekends they never bother with styling it and they have an impressive bedhead. Their hair is the same darker color as on their feral form, a coal black that almost has a purple sheen to it. Their eyebrows are a tad darker and make their eyes look very bright in comparison, especially with Jude's darker skin. They don't grow much body hair at all, just very fine hairs on their arms and legs but their chest has always been bare. This is to Jude's benefit, as they frequently wear a comm taped to their chest and most other agents have to shave it for preparation.
Jude fashion sense swings wildly from whether they're in another person's company or not. While at work they wear meticulously beautiful suits, usually dark colors to accent their hair, and they're always expensive and very well-made. On assignment, depending on whether they're working from behind-the-scenes or not, they are liable to wear an all-black suit to help break up their silhouette or some other favorite suit if they're going to be smoozing someone. When they're not working though Jude has the fashion sense of an eight-year-old. They can usually be found in crappy $3 thrift store jeans and stupid graphic t-shirts their mom buys, because she thinks American shirts are hilarious and Jude is small enough to fit in a lot of clothes made for young boys. A good number of these shirts have Captain America on them, or at least his shield, because Cerys thinks that's super funny.
Jude's face claim is Alexander Farsi.

the facts
➣ they love the James Bond books and movies, even if they're never been a huge fan of Daniel Craig
➣ the infrequent times they speak Arabic they usually make a face like they're sucking on something sour (it's mostly because it reminds them of their father, and Jude doesn't much like being reminded of him)
➣ their favorite color is purple, and they wear it fairly often
➣ they take Moneypenny everywhere it's appropriate and to quite a few places where it's not. In the case of the latter situations Jude hides him in the collar of their shirt or in a hood or something
➣ absolutely loathes sleeping in any kind of heat. When home they turn their air conditioner down to about 65 to sleep. They consider the steep air conditioning bills worth it
➣ despises guns. Not natural at handling them at all. Vastly prefers their blades
➣ Jude doesn't go anywhere without the enormous blade they wear at their back. They commissioned someone for a custom sheath that curves with their spine. They wear it under all their clothes
➣ they actually sleep with the blade too. It's about three feet long and they set it next to their body in bed. It's the only way they can sleep comfortably
➣ doesn't care much for music, no matter the genre
